From 1915-1920 photographers Arthur S. Mole and John D. Thomas donated their time to the U.S. military to help garner support for World War 1. The portraits are made entirely of soldiers and other military personel, the Statue of Liberty photograph alone is made of 18,000 men: 12,000 for just the torch though there’s only 17 at the base (the people at the very top are over a half a mile away from the camera).
